Title: Finance Placement Student

Job Status: Student Placement 40 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 9 am to 5pm)

Job Region: All Blue Door Locations/Remote

Salary– $17.50/hr

Blue Door is a not-for-profit registered charitable agency governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We have been an integral part of our community providing essential emergency shelter services since 1982. Blue Door’s mission is to support people who are at risk of or experiencing homelessness to attain and retain affordable housing.

 

Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Finance, the Finance Student will support the team in helping to develop the future financial budget, write procedures that compliments the structure in Sage, support with AP, identify areas for improvement and streamlining our process. The Finance Student will be assisting the Finance department in all areas and maintain professionalism and confidentiality.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Support with development of the future budget.
  • Review setup of budgeting structure in SAGE and write procedures.
  • Assist with set up SAGE Intelligence reporting and write procedures.
  • Assist to set up method of tracking financial data in SAGE for funding agreements.
  • Support with maintaining balance sheet schedules.
  • Support Accounts Payable function.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and streamline current processes.
  • Support with monthly reporting.
  • Support with account reconciliations.
  • Assist with analysis of expenses.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of all client and agency information.
  • Utilizes effective conflict resolution skills in accordance with (Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
  • Fosters positive and appropriate relationships with clients, colleagues, community partners and volunteers.
  • Provides referrals and follow-up as necessary.
  • Meets with manager on a regular basis and participates in completion of annual performance evaluation.

 

Occupational Health and Safety

  • All employees are responsible for carrying out work in a way that does not adversely affect their own health and safety and that of others.
  • All employees shall learn and understand health and safety policies and procedures and will comply with them.

 

Qualifications 

  • Currently enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus in finance, accounting, business, and managing IT systems.
  • Experience working with SAGE software preferred but not required.
  • Excellent MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Experience or understanding of financial analysis, financial modelling, financial forecasting and financial reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience with general accounting procedures.
  • Not for profit experience would be a great asset.
