Whitby, Ontario – The Region of Durham is investing in non-profit organizations that help prevent and/or reduce poverty for Durham Region residents.
The almost $500,000 investment comes via the Thriving Communities Fund, which supports programs and services that address food security, mental health, and addictions; meet the needs of vulnerable populations, such as seniors and children; and improves local employment opportunities.
The Thriving Communities Fund also supports capacity building efforts in the non-profit sector, such as the development of strategic plans and fundraising strategies that will help sustain non-profit organizations for the long term.
The following organizations have been awarded funding:
- Blue Door
- Community Development Council Durham
- Feed the Need in Durham
- Durham Community Action Group
- Back Door Mission for the Relief of Poverty
- AIDS Committee of Durham Region
- Bowmanville Older Adults Association
- Girls Inc. Durham
- Brock Community Food Bank
- Christian Faith Outreach Centre
- Redemption House of Recovery
- Durham Workforce Authority
