On Sept. 12, Premiere Mortgage Centre hosted their annual Walking it Forward event. Through their corporate initiative, called Premiere Cares, Premiere Mortgage Centre is focused on giving back to those who are in need and spreading awareness about homelessness in Canada.
The pandemic proved to be a challenge for millions of people across the country. With an estimated 35,000 people experiencing homelessness in Canada on any given night, Premiere set out to make a real difference during an uncertain time.
The 5km Walk, Run or Bike event supports two Canadian charities working to provide services for Canadians experiencing homelessness. Blue Door and the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) were chosen as the charity recipients for Ontario and the Maritimes respectively. With a goal to raise $10,000 for each charity, Premiere Cares smashed their targets and raised over $18,400+ for Blue Door, and $18,000 for CMHA, and counting!
Premiere Mortgage Centre has proudly supported Blue Door in the past through sponsoring the On The Way Home podcast (www.OnTheWayHome.ca). A national show discussing the critical issues around homelessness and housing instability in Canada. Blue Door was thrilled to partner with Premiere once again for the Walk it Forward event, supporting those experiencing homelessness across Canada.
Providing 102 of the 160 emergency beds in York Region, Blue Door supports thousands of vulnerable individuals seeking safety, health, and housing. Funds raised by this event will support individuals and families with basic emergency needs and provide them with supports to attain and retain housing in our community.
Premiere Cares’ compassionate support is truly making a difference in rapidly rehousing people, providing safe emergency housing, and health supports. It was and continues to be a terrifying time to experience homelessness.
Also supported by this event is the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA); the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada. Through a presence in more than 330 communities across every province and one territory, CMHA provides advocacy, programs and resources that help to prevent mental health problems and illnesses, support recovery and resilience, and enable all Canadians to flourish and thrive.
Home is the safest place to be, except when you don’t have a home to go to. Premiere Mortgage Centre’s Walk It Forward event provided a safe way to participate and donate during a pandemic. Blue Door CEO Michael Braithwaite provided a video dedication to thank the Premiere Team for reaching their $10,000 goal.
