Out of the Cold program has been full every night since opening for the season in October

After your Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping is done, you may be looking for ways to help others.

Blue Door is hoping residents will consider supporting its shelters and programs fighting homelessness on Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28.

Giving Tuesday is an international day of charitable giving, harnessing the power of communities, individuals and organizations to create positive change in their communities and around the world.

While the pandemic, the housing crisis made worse with rising interest rates and inflation have hit all communities, those living with homelessness and precarious housing have been especially hit by the challenges, CEO Michael Braithwaite said.

“It’s in the most challenging of times that we look to our community to lift up people most in need. This is no doubt a time of great challenges and we need your help more than ever,” he said.

“Your donation will go a long way in helping Blue Door provide the gifts of housing, health and employment to people most in need, and together we can give hope for a better year ahead.”

Blue Door has seen an influx of people experiencing homelessness, and often these situations leave many feeling like there is no hope. Since opening its doors in October, earlier than ever, Blue Door’s Mosaic Interfaith Out of the Cold program has been at full capacity each night, despite adding additional beds compared to previous years.

Blue Door’s campaign was launched on Nov. 21 and is set to raise $50,000 by Nov. 28.
