‘This is more than just a thrift shop,’ mayor says. ‘It’s a place where donated treasures find new life, where volunteers find purpose, and where our community comes together to support important causes’
It was a milestone weekend at the re-Source Thrift Shop, as it celebrated its 10th anniversary in Bradford.
The re-Source Thrift Shop is a group of independent thrift stores which all operate in support of Christian education.
The shops are 100-per-cent volunteer run, each with it’s own board of directors.
In addition to helping fund Christian education, the shops also support several other local charities and ministries.
Bradford Mayor James Leduc was in attendance for the celebration on Saturday.
“It’s my great pleasure to be here today (Saturday) to celebrate … and to present this certificate of recognition to the volunteer board and all the dedicated volunteers who make this store possible,” Leduc said. “Ten years ago, in June 2015, re-Source … opened its doors on Holland Street East. What started as a small volunteer-run thrift store has become a cornerstone of our community. With 40 to 50 volunteers giving their time each week, this store has created its own little community while serving the greater Bradford West Gwillimbury area.”
Locally, profits go to support bursary programs at King Christian School, helping families who need financial assistance. Ten per cent of their profits also support local organizations like the Helping Hand Food Bank, A Hand Up Clothing Room, and Blue Door Shelters. Even items they cannot sell find new purpose through the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Leduc said.
“Re-Source represents the best of our community spirit,” he said. “This is more than just a thrift shop. It’s a place where donated treasures find new life, where volunteers find purpose, and where our community comes together to support important causes.”
Leduc also noted the store has been saving items from landfills for a decade.
“I want to thank every volunteer who has given their time over these 10 years, and congratulate re-Source Thrift Shop on this milestone anniversary,” he said. “Here’s to many more years of community service.”
