Aurora Cares – Housing for All hosts a screening of Thinking Beyond the Market June 16, followed by a discussion with housing expert Dr. Brian Doucet and guest panellist Mike Braithwaite
A local volunteer group is inviting residents to take a closer look at affordable housing solutions during a special documentary screening at Aurora Town Square next week.
Aurora Cares – Housing for All will present Thinking Beyond the Market, a feature-length documentary by housing researcher Dr. Brian Doucet, on June 16 at 7 p.m. in Brevik Hall. The film examines innovative policies, programs and projects from across Canada aimed at making housing more affordable and accessible.
The event will include a discussion and question-and-answer session with Doucet and special guest panellist Mike Braithwaite, CEO of Jack.org and former CEO of Blue Door.
Organizers say the screening offers an opportunity for residents to explore how communities can address growing housing challenges, including affordability for workers, young adults and families hoping to remain in York Region.
The documentary highlights non-market housing initiatives and partnerships between municipalities and builders that have helped create affordable housing options in communities across the country.
Hosted by the volunteer-led Aurora Cares – Housing for All, the event is sponsored by Concierge Realty Group. Net proceeds from ticket sales and donations will support the Aurora Food Pantry.
The screening begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at Aurora Town Square, 50 Victoria St., Aurora. Organizers encourage residents interested in housing issues and community solutions to attend.
Organizers are advising anyone experiencing difficulty purchasing tickets through the Aurora Town Square system to contact the box office directly at 365-500-3313 for assistance with ticket purchases.
